First Step Cambodia

Country: Cambodia
Established: 2010
Website: first-step-cambodia.org

First Step Cambodia (FSC) works with male victims and survivors of sexual abuse, and their families, carers, supporters and communities.

At the core of its work is providing unique training to ensure that victims and their families receive the best possible level of care and help.

Approach

FSC provides support, learning and consultation opportunities for those working with boys and young men in various settings. Through projects which focus on prevention, protection, advocacy and education, FSC’s goal is to work in partnership with others to bring about positive change.

The organisation also offers direct social work services and the majority of children involved in its programmes are babies or very young. The boys they work with have very specialist needs and the support they’re given by FSC enables them to achieve their potential with freedom and dignity.

Keeping children safe is a priority, and FSC work to strengthen families and help them stay together or, when this isn’t in the best interest of the child, finding them alternative family-based care. When appropriate FSC offers emergency foster care for children who are at risk and require immediate assistance.
